Just a quick model in Zbrush to unclog the brain. 2 hours in about 3 mins timelapsed.
So after a busy 4 weeks of work and commissions I have stuff for the site
We have work I’ve done for Jason of Angry Viking Press to do with the Artica toy model for his kickstarter and his redo of the Drossel model into a more original design (so its back to a wip version again),
Some wip work for Jim for Catsncameras the web comic (caution some nsfw stuff on there so be advised),
Also some of my own work on Fiona, now with added biker suit.
Plus Im throwing in some wallpapers made in Blender for people
(can also make for good textures)
So Im working on the next Drossel (packing the previous one as I type) and I hit a bump. Got to chatting with some redditors and did a quick rerender of the Rhino head from within blender / cycles. Loaded it up with a simple clay colour for the skin and used 2 lights to do the rest of the work. After that I tweaked the image further in photoshop (although not that much, mostly just to add some colour to the eyes).
and here we go
mostly just to see what I could drum up in short time whilst I got some paperwork sorted. (Additional one which I made after fiddling about with cycle settings).
Well the weathers been draining my spirit and health like crazy, large amounts of sugar and caffeine is holding me up, but its been cold, wet and miserable these past few days.
Since its been one of those days when I haven’t much to do (since my motivation was sapped) I needed to do another bored series image, quick design using a mix of Blender and Zbrush sculpting. I would have had a reasonably nice video but I got the setting horribly wrong and 32gb later had to scrap the video completely, all I have left is the timelapse from Zbrush part. Which also is a incomplete. But I pushed on and ended up making a cartoonish Rhino for a wallpaper.
As mentioned about 30% blender, 60% Zbrush, last 10% is a little combining renders in photoshop.
Hello all, well aside from various problems that have been getting in my way this past week I managed to complete a kind of “freebie”, in part for the good business I’ve had with Mr Canty and his company http://www.angryviking press.com I decided to redo one of his characters in my own interpretation.
Build time was spread over a day or two and done totally in Zbrush (with a little prework on the base model shape in Blender).
I have some stills of the work plus the videos, one from Youtube and one in Vimeo, unlike the last Mech Sally model video, this one seemed to get the short end of the stick when it came to converting to Youtube this time, so Vimeo might be better choice if you want to see it full screen, however the midscreen in youtube is still watchable.
Referances were based on Igunanas in the real world, images from Mr Cantys DA site (http://jasoncanty.deviantart.com/) and a little fantasy flair from my own head.

“Gah its been 2 weeks nearly since my last post!”
(rushes to get the images ready)
“Hang on I got a good reason!”
(Quickly quickly!)
“K I think Im ready!”
Ok hello all Ive been pretty worked off my feet these last 2 weeks, aside from working extra hours at my job and working for a company who I cant mention I had the pleasure of meeting someone rather interesting.
(clears throat)
Im currently being hired by
(Drum roll)
http://www.angryvikingpress.com/ !
Or more specifically Mr Jason Canty of AngryViking Press!
Im currently doing a selection of characters from the Sonic cartoon series SATM
and the first to be work on is…..
(another drum roll)
Sally Acorn!
Designed and being built around several costumes, shes been made from scratch with 4 costumes, one of her early original design that was to be in the cartoon series (when she looked more like a yellow cat), a costume design based on a deviant art image (ill add a name when I find out who did it) and the original 2 suits I made for Rouge the bat back in 2010! Sally currently has all but one of the suits nearly complete, only the Space suit remains to be reworked (and by reworked I mean mostly redone since I found that the design I did back then was rather vert heavy). Work is nearly complete on all the suits and it will be up to Mr Canty to decide what will and wont be offered up to the public.
Ill add more images of the works in progress when I get some needed sleep…
Modelling for the last 12hrs is making my head feel a little light.
So after importing a decimated version of Raz i got to work uving and sorting out the various sections of his clothing.
Nothing too special at the moment, mainly just to test out the uving.
However after looking it up several hours later I noticed some niggling problems with the hands and the lapel of the jacket. So after some fiddling with the uv I figured it made more sense to redo the uv and as such the colour and normal map. Annoying, but neccessary.
So after fixing the uv,reapplying the normal map and redoing a quick and dirty uvunwrap I had the model back in order. I started shaping the head/helmet/glasses and eyes to be more like the original Raz. A simple lattice modifier on each part and its sorted out the shaping very quickly.
Also forgot to mention the size differance, Original was about 1.5mil, decimated to 500,000. Then finally after doing the retopology I got it down to 5,000 faces (give or take a few hundred).
Shrunk down the sections on the arms and legs to be more in styling and added the backpack, belt and buckle to the mix.
And here is the final result.
Im a little annoyed at the texturing, as I mentioned earlier I did a dirty uvunwrap, unlike the original attempt I didnt do the clean up of the uv after unwrapping so things like the jacket are a little funky, but thankfully if I wanted to I could fix it later with little issue, for now it looks unnoticable on the render.
All the texture work, unwrapping and retopology done in Blender, Sculpting was done in Zbrush.
Still I enjoyed the end result
Heres the blurb I made for the youtube channel.
“Created in one sitting, around six hours. was meant to just be the head but the project went pretty well so I carried on till it was done. (I havent included buckles or pockets, as they will be added once its in Blender and retopologized).
Done as a fan piece towards a great (but at times frustrating) game.
Character is owned by their respective owners Double Fine and I hope that they manage to create a sequal in the future.”
So now I have to do the retopology and add the little bits and pieces to the costume. The rest will be done in Blender.
Btw if your looking for a 3d modeller for your production and dont mind me using Blender (I can make it work for any other program, but Im fastest on Blender). Drop me a email at Thordwilk@gmail.com. I dont mind contracted work and Im willing to travel just about anywhere in the world. So what are you waiting for
Woops! Nearly forgot the wallpaper
Hello all again, Im back from my sickness and with a short piece Im working on the side for a future project. After the last few days I had to get my my mind back into creative mode, so I did the follow up to the Boar Skull with the wip of the Boar Skin. Here is a link to the videos.
1. Here it is with music for those that cant sit still for 2 mins
Youtube:
and here is the vimeo version which quality wise is better.

Next its off to Blender and to retopologize and create the rest of him.
