So after a busy 4 weeks of work and commissions I have stuff for the site
We have work I’ve done for Jason of Angry Viking Press to do with the Artica toy model for his kickstarter and his redo of the Drossel model into a more original design (so its back to a wip version again),
Some wip work for Jim for Catsncameras the web comic (caution some nsfw stuff on there so be advised),
Also some of my own work on Fiona, now with added biker suit.
Plus Im throwing in some wallpapers made in Blender for people
(can also make for good textures)
So today’s been a good day, I passed my Trinity English exam and now I’m both a 3D modeller and a English Teacher. Multiple job opportunities HO!
To celebrate here’s some more renders: (Quick note: they are all high renders so zoom in to see the details!)
——————————-
Fiona: to those that have seen this wondering what’s new, first off its the old renderer, but several of the hairs were recoloured with inner grey colouring in line with how fox fur looks under the orange, the hair count has been trimmed a little to speed up render times, the bald spots have been cleaned up and the eyes now have iris’s that should reflect light like a real eye (fingers crossed as I haven’t had a chance to animate her head yet, so its based on still renders). General cleaning up, less gloss on the hair so light doesn’t light her up like before. Each hair type now has the correct light shine, so Black gives off the blue tint, orange is a cross between yellow and light orange, White is slightly white/greyed, bits of yellow staining might be tweaked later but thats for later, now her heads for animating.
——————————–
Drossel V1: Rendered the original design with the V2′s colouring scheme, gives a odd polished gun metal look.
———————————
Drossel V2: Quick look at the total model with and without armour, back view included. The design look I’m going for is that unlike the V1 design she isn’t really designed to be without her armour in this version. It not only covers her skeleton but also acts as structor support on the knees and arms, also Ill have to redo her neck to take into account that she has a friggin extra leg attached to her head (which I see as the driving part in the design) which cant be light to carry around. But its coming along nicely.
Current build of the Drossel build based on the newer version. I took some references from various artists sketches of what they though would be inside the shell of Drossel, and then worked out how the joints should bend and move with some added artistic license.
Depending on size it take about 30 mins to about 2 and half hours to render. But at least now her wheels can come out of her feet and her legs can rotate without being trapped
(fingers crossed I haven’t had a chance to rig it up yet).
Anyway enough talk here are the renders.
All done in Cycles Blender.
Took a night to test out the strand rendering in cycles. Below are my tests of the hair on Fiona. First off I do like some of the renders, but it is really really long to render a nice look set of hair, but I did manage to get some of them down to reasonable levels, but when it came to trying to combine all the different hair settings the time sky rocketed and does crash unless given all the attention.
Also I just cant get the settings to allow the hair to layer on top of each other like I do with the original model. The closest I got was to get the black sections to mix with the orange even with the add shader. The white gets taken over completely by the orange and the yellow is non existent. I’m not sure if its just due to cycles build missing what I need or I’m missing something obvious, so I’m going to wait on the next builds and try again then.
Credit goes to Blender Guru for his hair tutorial and Blender nerd for his alpha mapping video which helped a little in getting the Fiona model to work sort of like the original.
More work done today, probably going to have to hold off till Saturday to add more.
But for now here’s the back section, added rounded ball points on the pistons so when she twists it allows her to do so and still take walking strides.
Head piece is being built in sections and the whole thing will be strip able to the skeleton.
Also whilst I don’t want to be banging this in too much here’s the Evil Diva info again for those that are going to town before the weekend.
Anyway till Saturday.
Progress shots of Drossel mrk2 and Evil Diva is coming to stores!, Preorder info below. Go to your local comic store and ask for this comic under the Diamond banner, the series is damn good and is worth a pre order. If you fancy a cool indie series give it a look. I’ve got my preorder already
Quick addition: Here’s the link to the Evil Diva site for those that would like to get a taste before buying:
Well the weathers been draining my spirit and health like crazy, large amounts of sugar and caffeine is holding me up, but its been cold, wet and miserable these past few days.
Since its been one of those days when I haven’t much to do (since my motivation was sapped) I needed to do another bored series image, quick design using a mix of Blender and Zbrush sculpting. I would have had a reasonably nice video but I got the setting horribly wrong and 32gb later had to scrap the video completely, all I have left is the timelapse from Zbrush part. Which also is a incomplete. But I pushed on and ended up making a cartoonish Rhino for a wallpaper.
As mentioned about 30% blender, 60% Zbrush, last 10% is a little combining renders in photoshop.
What a busy set of days, I’ve been busying myself with the tescol course and the Kickstarter has grown and grown, its very nearly reached the 15k mark!
With a little more help it might even make it past the 20k as well. Congrats to all who have added they donations to the Kickstarter, as promised I will be releasing the original Drossel Model onto BlendSwap and in OBJ format in December.
In other model news it might go quiet for the mean time for me as I have to concentrate on the course, if I find that Im handling it well enough I might try for the odd bored series head creation but for the most part Ill be holding off on making any new 3d till mid December.
So till then Ill see you around
Hello all been quiet but not lazy, finished a piece for Mr Canty. Sort of a fusion of the original Drossel Von Flügel and the new/old? Fireball version.
Also got bored and messed about doing a mix of the old tron disc and the newer versions.
Just fyi the model got two modes, one is more of a going out hot pants sort of look the others more in keeping with the original design, you decide which is better.
The models are riggable and relatively low poly, the final piece was separated into skeleton and armour packages to help make the rigging process easier.
So you got this far why not take a look at the kickstarter page, we’ve nearly made the half way mark on the asking amount and if you would like to get yourself some cool swag whilst getting some well known and excellent artists a head start drop a few bucks and feel all glowy inside
(ok that was a little too syrupy) but still take a look its got some great potential.
