Hello all, here is the final descriptions and renders of the My little Bronies.
Small trivia : Total build time for all ponies (not including two other ponies for the specific Anicom society) 45+ hours.
Base models designed in 3dsmax 9 and Blender, Hair in Max 9, rest of work done in Zbrush.
I had a nice response on the night when I displayed the work and for those that were there I thank you all, it made me feel like I had accomplished something for all those hours spent .
Quick edit: well as ever uploading onto here isnt proving to be smooth, I wanted to separate the two galleries but it just keeps adding them all together again (sigh), well this includes all the ponies made, after that there are descriptions of the main group.
p.p.s Well after a few days to recover from this amount of modelling I have to admit some of these are better then others, In fact I was tempted to delete the last 2 “king unicorn versions” simply due to them being just too simple compared to the rest, they were however built really fast in next to no time (like 4- 5 hours tops) so yeah they would suffer (plus they were built for a specific event which it turned out weren’t really needed but oh well), but even with the long build time ( the 45 hrs is mainly due to crashing issues with the 2011 version of 3dsMax, which meant in the end I had to switch to a older version max 9) I still learnt a few new things.
How to better import hair into Zbrush, what amount will show up better in the final render but still make it usable and compositing the final images in Photoshop, so Ill take this as a learning experience and push on to better things. To date this has been the highest viewed post I’ve had so far, some are from /co/ on 4chan and others are from the Anicom forums, but thanks for visiting all the same Ill try to do better next time.
Pretty uneventful day all round, been working since about 11am to finish this one and it pretty much went without a hitch, the clothing was time consuming but since I can use it for the others when they get into their band costumes its worth it. I had very little idea how I was going to progress with this character, I new I was playing off Fluttershy’s name so it became Boldshake so I went with a drinker/dancer/Fonzi type character, someone who if full of confidence and willing to be the first to break into conversations with people. Seems the more a do this per day the faster I’m getting (this one took about 6hrs), looking forward to Thursdays presentation.
Heres his story:
Shake represents forwardness, over confidence, bursting energy.
Found by Einstein during a music convention, was creating a ruckus with a different band when he had a guitar off with the rival bands guitarists, after flooring the crowd with his solo play he was kicked out by security and left to get drunk at the local tavern, out spoken and very in your face he suffers with a little to much confidence and needs reigning in to prevent himself from getting in over his head. When introduced by Einstein to Toxic the two discussed into the night various styles of play the band could accomplice with a addition of a guitarist. Convinced by the young stallions passion and skills he was taken on but on condition that he follow Toxics lead in matters of music when it came down the final decision. In return he got the occasional solos that allowed him to burn his energy away in from of the crowd and feel like his was being appreciated for his skills.
Shakes mark is of a Beer glasses overflowing, showing a passion for acceptance and acknowledgement of skills.
Well this was one of the those models that for the most part went fine, except when I had to export my hair work in zbrush, the damn 3dsmax 2011 package kept giving me memory issues when exporting and so I had to go about it the long way and import all the hair all together then export the meshed finals individually. Took alot of time to get right but managed to export the lot and even lower the polys by half, whilst still keeping it looking reasonable. This version is a little closer too Big Mac in design then Apple Jack but since its a boy I figured it made more sense.
Differing from the previous two this one worked much closer to the design style of the cartoon series so I might (if I can still stomach it) go back and tweak the others to look closer to this verison. Im still not happy with the way Einstein looked at the end, too close the old style of MLP then the newer version,
oh well heres this ones story:
Orange Squash – AppleJack
The heavy man of the group, was a runaway from his family orchard where he was foreseeing a life on the farm only as one of many fruit pickers (big family). Soft speaking he can make the ground shake just by walking if he takes his concentration away for a second. This makes him overly sensitive to his actions and as such leaves him with doubt and fear, this also causes him to lie about his real life and make up stories about his wonder exploits to cover up his terror of being found out. He saw the band in its early stages as they travelled past the farm one day and knew he had to take a chance and that night took off to see them, after a altercation in a bar where RC was involved in a fight Orange squash got in the way and managed to calm down RC long enough to prevent them all getting into trouble with the law. After which Toxic offered him a position in the band as security/ bassist and as the only person able to hold RC back when he flips his lid. Only Toxic knows his true story but feels that when he is ready he will make up his mind to either tell his real story or confront his family.
Orange Squashes mark is of Large ripened Oranges, symbolising his largeness and possibility of ripening into something more then expected.
