Recently got a excellent video of Cerebus wip from What comics Entertainment, using a combination of some of the characters I modeled with colour and lighting, and thought it was too good to pass up posting here. Its really coming along with the project, cant wait to see it in full!
Video is only 5 seconds long so a few replay are in order to see the nice added detail the texture artist did, also the lighting is great for the scene.
Hello all as I have been meaning to do I’m currently finishing off some projects for Cerebus and another company (who I cant mention atm), along with this and my new job at the Co-op Ive been finding little time to do the projects like I had hoped, I have made some progress though and will post the renders of how they are going here.
FF Image = is the one I have spent the longest working on, it involves a different style of hair colouring, Im not sure if its technically quicker (as mentioned in my previous posts) but the pay off is that you can control the length of hair and coloration of the fur with ease and repair/replace sections in next to no time. Once I get the time I will be making the tutorial for this characters fur.
Greeble Village = Probably the last set of models for the Cerebus Project, designed to help fill in gaps in towns, yet not be too heavy of detail. Simple structures that can have bits and pieces thrown on to add individualism.
Pigu Mum = Not too much to say except Ive been looking back at changing this character some after discovering the newer way to handle hair.
Other projects = 2 at the moment that I cant mention but they also have been taking up a fair amount of time as well.
Ok been a bit since the last one but here is a image of what Ive been working on… more to come.
Also on the job situation: Working is both tiring and worthwhile (duh), plus my bank account is going to be happier.
Well its not exactly all I hoped to post but to prevent this blog falling into nothingness here are some of the projects Ive been working on.
Tricky test as I haven’t been done landscapes before, but with some research on Blender Guru and Blendercookie I managed to make it easy to use and relatively easy on the rendering (depending on how many trees you add to the scene).
This is one that was built to be easy to repeat, so the mountain can be repeated as its very low poly since the high poly version was texture baked on top. Its kept fairly simple so that it can be given to a texture artist, and so as to not draw too much attention away from the characters.
There are two different type of trees, one in the scene is the high poly version and in the far distance there is a very low poly tree to break up the horizon. (not shown)
Well I said to myself Id finish this off today and I did it, I modelled the whole body (excluding the head) this afternoon. Retopologized, uvd, normal mapped, and tweaked like crazy to get all the pieces to fit on the model. Next step is to send it off to the texture artist and rigger and get feedbak on anything I have missed (which I hope will be little).
Anyway heres a image for those with TLDR itish, good night all.
Quick post to show the progress of the Chico head for the Cerebus Project.
So its complete, everything in the image has been uv’d and had its normals applied to a lower poly version, all except the eyes and the glasses (didnt seem to be much point), pants and shoes. The rest is all normals on model.
All finally finished in Blender.Quick edit here is a wire frame version to see what its like without the mesh smooth or normals.
Hello all well since its been a while since I posted I should give some info on whats been happening so far.
Modeling continues on the Cerebus 3d Movie with me now working on a new character Bishop Powers (who I mistook for a nun at first :/ )
Anyway here is some progress shots of the character so far:
Also some abstract designs some from projects for other people and one from a inspiration I saw in Deus Ex : Human Revolution, Im trying to make light wings for a character to fly with. The moon beetle image was created entirely in illustrator but Im afraid I have had to corrupt it a little, it might well end up in a upcoming phone app. However if that falls through I will release the high definition version for purchase.
After many weeks I managed to complete the 3 models for both Cerebus the animation and Fear of the Dark.
So what happens after completing these 3? Get started on another set.
Currently working out which models to help with next on Cerebus, and also some 2D for a as yet cant disclose company. will be nice to stretch my skills with some other new projects. Also gives me a chance to try out some new skills in cloth which I have renders available to view, once they are done ill post them on Blendswap and spread the love .
Btw the table cloth is high poly, but the chair is very low poly with a normal map and what not applied to make it look the way it does. I was trying for a sort of plastic threaded look for the table and the chair is made to look like silk/satin-ish.
