Sorry for those that come to view my recent works, Ive been both creatively drained and work overloaded. I however have also been keeping myself busy with my 3d works when I can and made some pretty cool breakthroughs in regards to fur in Blender that I hope to write a tutorial for.
I also will have the rest of my projects posted that include things from the Cerebus film, the Akira bike and a first attempt at my animated show-reel that I’m sorely missing.
So if your a regular I haven’t died or given up, Ive just been too busy to keep my regular posts. I hope to come back again soon after the coming weeks business.

Hello all again, its been a busy few days so I’ve got a fair bit of work done, currently I’m finishing off the Akira bike (the control panel is proving tricky) but until I’m happy with it here is a short film by a collection of Taiwanese Students at the National Taiwan University of Arts.

Here is their site and below their video, please sit back and enjoy, afterwards leave a note on their vimeo site :) .

So after importing a decimated version of Raz i got to work uving and sorting out the various sections of his clothing.

Nothing too special at the moment, mainly just to test out the uving.

However after looking it up several hours later I noticed some niggling problems with the hands and the lapel of the jacket. So after some fiddling with the uv I figured it made more sense to redo the uv and as such the colour and normal map. Annoying, but neccessary.

So after fixing the uv,reapplying the normal map and redoing a quick and dirty uvunwrap I had the model back in order. I started shaping the head/helmet/glasses and eyes to be more like the original Raz. A simple lattice modifier on each part and its sorted out the shaping very quickly.

Also forgot to mention the size differance, Original was about 1.5mil, decimated to 500,000. Then finally after doing the retopology I got it down to 5,000 faces (give or take a few hundred).

Shrunk down the sections on the arms and legs to be more in styling and added the backpack, belt and buckle to the mix.

And here is the final result.

Im a little annoyed at the texturing, as I mentioned earlier I did a dirty uvunwrap, unlike the original attempt I didnt do the clean up of the uv after unwrapping so things like the jacket are a little funky, but thankfully if I wanted to I could fix it later with little issue, for now it looks unnoticable on the render.

All the texture work, unwrapping and retopology done in Blender, Sculpting was done in Zbrush.

Still I enjoyed the end result :)

Today I managed to get myself out of the house to see “The Artist”, a tribute to the Silent era of film.

I believe that there has been enough advertisement to explain the principle of the film, but Id like to give a little note to the experience I had when I went to see it at the Pheonix Cinema in Leicester.

First of all I knew that it was a silent film, but surprising I was told that a number of people were asking for their money back due to not know that the film was a non talkie! I asked jokingly just how a person could just go into a film without checking up on it but I was desperate to get in quickly so I just left the question hanging. The turn out for the film was actually quite large for the small screen, having found a decent seat and prepared the film began (Ill skip the usual ads they weren’t really worth remembering). Silance….

I have not been in such a quiet theater in quite some time, the instant the credits began for the film and the logo of the movie company came up the crowd was transfixed, the scenes played along with a nice selection of music and the moments the crowd were meant to react were spot on. We laughed, we cried (manly tears!), we had thrills and even chills. I highly recommend going to see the film. Treat it as it is, a beautiful treat that you should devour and leave begging for more. And when you do leave, look up some of the classics of the Silent era, also check out Paul Mertons tv series to Silent movies and the actors that started in them.

I wish there would be more made, it was not only a wonderful recreation but it also had me relaxed and enjoying the silence of film. A wonder piece and I hope again that there will be more considered.

Its been a while since I did a post about robots, here is a link to a selection of robots being built to fly based on various differing creatures, such as a Locust and a Bat.

First off Merry Christmas :) )

Ill make it quick, a lots been going on in the last week. Other then the obvious festival planning Ive entered into a Blenderartists competition to try and win a copy of BSurfaces.

So here is the newer wip of the Dragon Head I am currently working on.

Its posing some problems at the minute though, I cant use either Blender of Sculptris due to memory and topology issues so I’m using Zbrush to finish off the remaining detail. Currently its sitting at 8.5 mil and that is just the front part of the head, the rest of the body is still being worked on in the other programs mentioned.
