Here I have a couple of heads I created, the first” Scottie dog”was a replacement for a messed up head I created (and spent a damn long time on only for it to corrupt after I appended), which took the sting out of having lost most of my hard work (seriously Pixologic get a auto save function in PLEASE). The other “Hedgehog girl”, was one of the first attempt at remodeling a head base model into something totally different. I wasn’t really thinking about any character in particular but I wanted to test out the spikes features and this was the result.
Working further on Zbrush and trying out different techniques and approaches, this is a new character I am creating for a possible animation otherwise it will just become a high poly model.
The hair was made with zspheres, which were woven together like notrmal hair, then flattened down the sides, had stripes and rakes added to add depth, then added noise to give it the Rastafarian hairstyle look.
The head took about 3 hours (I took my time with this one to get a more real looking lioness face) and the hair took about the same (I was experimenting for the most part so it took longer).
The next step is a torso and limbs.
Quick wolf head model
no reference photos, but I took into account the things I learned at Animex this year and did a redo of my usual style. Started with a box and worked on the shape slowly with smoothing turned off till about sudD5 then I added smoothing at level 6 (since the program would know by then the areas I wanted to keep straight). I give credit to the Eat3D group who I also learned a lot from their site. Defiantly worth buy their 3.5R3 Zbrush dvds.
A design I had built for a company that was starting up but unfortunately was disbanded due to lack of funds. This was to be the mini mascot for the Company “Big Bear studios”, I looked at references from “Brother Bear” and various different bears that Google would bring up. After a sketch up of the bear I got down to modeling and this was the final result.
Heres a couple of works that were for a competition that is held in my old university which is called the “Iron Man”, your given a subject and told to draw or create it for the next week, those that dont make it in time get removed and the contest continues.
Heres the two characters I designed for the competition which was “wwhat animal would you see the heads of the society as?”
This is Bob , hes a portly gent that seems to be able to get people up and moving without managing to get on peoples goat. So I looked at his shape and expressions and thought he reminded me of a penguin, after a few sketches I got down to building him. It was box modeling done for the body, the head and fins have 3dsmax hair applied and the yellow streaks are alpha maps hair pieces. (On a side note, the reason the butter symbol is rendered odd is that I ran out of time to re-texture the t shirt again, so I added to the front of the another alpha mapped heart which was applied as close as possible, the rendering came out a little odd but it worked in a pinch), (also the guy LOVES butter so thats why its there).
Character two was done quickly for another of the team called Morty, she was and is a furry fan and has her persona done as a cat so I decided to use her face and referances of her character and designed the head.
I had little time to add the rest of the character so concentrated on the hair effects and styling of the head.
The end result was a small applause from the group, funnily one of the students wanted to know if I was a student, I mentioned that I was a graduate and they immediately waved the work off as if I had cheated some how! I didn’t know whether to be pleased or annoyed :p
